A lot of online trends talk is all ‘Fur Coat No Knickers‘ – as your Irish Mammy used to say.
This blog is my ongoing attempt to delve a little deeper and get to the heart of the why people are doing what they’re doing, saying what they’re saying… buying, sharing, favouriting, hating, wearing… rather than just the what.
Often (and particularly in the digital age) we dismiss the ‘trivial’ trends as just that – ‘trendy’ – and forget to ask the important question about what really is going on underneath. But at the end of the day whether we’re talking the latest viral or the latest app that everyone has the hots for, it all still comes down to how we think and act as individuals and as a group.
This blog aims to take silly trends seriously (and sometimes give the serious a funny little party hat..).
So, whether it’s fashion, politics, etiquette, social media, business, retail, people, an object of desire that just keeps appearing online, new places and faces or a pint of random-whatever-your-having-yourself-really… this blog is all about exploring those trends and trying to think about them a bit differently.
Due to the extensive amount of ‘un-fency’ opinions and foreseeable continued use of curse words, I would like to stress that this blog is not associated, nor a representation of with my employers. They’re much nicer.
I should also state for the upteenth time online, that I am not the chef, Rachael Ray. My background is entirely marketing based. I have a Masters in Advertising from DIT and a BA in Sociology and English from UCD. My work experience has taken me across strategy in media, creative and digital – working with brands such as Unilever, Heineken, AIB, the BBC, Irish Life, Irish Times, Kildare Village, Britvic, Jameson, TodayFM, etc.
You can find me on Twitter here, Instagram here, Pinterest here and LinkedIn here. Come say ‘Hello!’… or troll. Because I’m still waiting to be trolled and won’t consider any of this a personal success until that’s the case.
